YXC-med at a glance
The YOUTH X CHANGE in the Mediterranean (YXC-med) was a 24-month long programme of MIO-ECSDE / MEdIES Secretariat that took place between 2009 and 2011.

The YXC-med programme addressed the critical issue of sustainability in the lifestyles of young people of the Mediterranean particularly in terms of consumption habits. Based on an existing worldwide initiative of UNEP & UNESCO this initiative specifically targeted the young people of the Mediterranean region.

The YXC publication (already existing in 19 languages) was translated to Arabic, enriched with Mediterranean-relevant case studies, re-produced and circulated to six Arabic speaking countries of the region, namely, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria and Tunisia. A series of promotion activities took place including training seminars for educators on how to integrate the YXC topics in their teaching ; and hands-on activities directly applied to youth and students (e.g. in summer camps). Finally, following the trainings, a set of teacher's instructions were developed, based on the principles of Intercultural Education (IE), and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

Throughout its duration, the YXC-med project reached about 15 thousand people in total, many of whom acted as multipliers themselves (e.g. teachers, youth leaders, trainers, etc).
