This is a lesson plan for K 11 (2nd Lyceum in Greek Education system, tested in a class of the 1st Lyceum of St. Dimitrios, Athens, Greece in 2017) focusing connecting the climate change impacts with the everyday life of the Greek students.

This work can be seen as an example of using a blog in class-work. It was designed and carried out by Mr George Liarakos, Secondary level Teacher and Master Student in «Didactics of Chemistry and New Educational Technologies» of the University of Athens  (DiXiNET).

The link gets you to a blog where students have posted their works (Greek only). http://blogs.sch.gr/gliarako/

This is the analysis of the course work (Greek only). Here

This lesson plan targets K-8 students of Chemistry specifically referring to the "Carbon Dioxide" section (as taught in 2nd Gymnasium, Greek Educational System),. The plan was developed in two parts with the aims of a) presentation of the cognitive aspects; and b) changing the behavior of the students.

Starting with the physical properties and the uses of carbon dioxide, students explore the carbon dioxide cycle, as part of the carbon cycle. They learn about the greenhouse effect, and what human activities are associated with climate change. They are introduced to sustainable development issues (overpopulation, renewable energy, consumption, etc.) they learn about about the carbon footprint and calculate their own at home, with the help of their family. They discuss their findings in class and set their own reduction targets.

This lesson plan was developed by Anastasia Andrikopoulou, Master Student in «Didactics of Chemistry and New Educational Technologies» of the University of Athens (DiXiNET, 2017).

Access the lesson plan (doc file) (in Greek only).

This educational project "Water, the gifts of rain" engaged kindergarten children and aimed to raise their awareness towards the sustainable management of water, focusing on issues such as the weather, the rainfalls, the water shortage, water responsible behaviour, etc. The project was implemented at the 12th Kinderagarten School of Iraklion in Crete (Greece) and coordinated by the teacher, Ms Aspasia Vassilaki.

The project is presented here (in Greek language).

This is a large board (floor) game with many types of "challenges" for the players relating to mechanisms, causes and consequences of climate change. It is designed for 12-14 yrs and may be applied within one academic hour, to sensitize and improve students' knowledge relating to the phenomenon in a didactic, dynamic and funny way.
The philosophy of the game can be adjusted to many other sustainable development and environmental issues dealt within school, such as energy, water, wastes and forests management, etThis is a large board (floor) game with many types of "challenges" for the players relating to mechanisms, causes and consequences of climate change. This is a proposal for teachers to carry out an experiential activity in class, to address the Greenhouse effect. It has been successfully applied at secondary level students (12-15 yrs) in a high school of Greece. It requires few, easy to find materials, and it takes 1-2 school hours. It can be carried out as a 'warm up' starting activity of an EE / ESD programme, followed by other extension activities, or to enrich a typical physics, or science lesson.

his is a kinetic educational game in form of time-line. It can be considered as a type of concept map, where the key concepts are evolving in a linear, rather than a radial way. During the game the main primary and secondary steps (or processes) in the journey of water are addressed, starting from the natural resources, passing through human use (and abuse?) ending at the waste treatment plant.
The game is easy to construct and it may be used both at primary and secondary level, while its method may be applied to other educational contexts which refer to sequences of events or processes (e.g. in history class, etc.).

The people leaving in a rather dry island of Greece have been facing water shortage problems for quite some time. This morning, they wake up to find out that their taps donΆt work … The mayor had to “cut off” the water supply and hold a public consultation inviting all major water user groups, so as to reach a resolution.

TThe people leaving in the region where a large Dam is planned to be built are rather upset due to its construction… For this reason a public consultation is organised in order for all involved stakeholders to come up with a joint decision regarding the future of the Dam, after taking into account all competing interests and every alternative solution.
